Living Under A Rock

I like to read books.  A lot.  No joke, I’ve been known to go through two books a week if I really like them.  Two books a week can really add up.  Can you imagine the stacks of books that accumulate in my room?  So why am I just now learning about this little thing called the kindle?  It’s even on the second model already!  I must be living under a rock.

About a month ago I was at the gym when I noticed this lady on the bike reading something off a slim white device.  (Yes, I sometimes people watch at the gym.  My Ipod can only hold my attention for so long.)  So I noticed this lady reading off this device but didn’t think much of it.  A week later I’m on Amazon looking for some books and lo and behold there’s an advertisement for the Kindle!  So, very unlike myself, I clicked on the ad and was introduced to the Kindle.  I have yet to buy one, but my neighbor let me borrow hers and so far I love it!  Talk about no more stacks of books!

Laura Petzoldt - Still not convinced. For the price of a Kindle, $300 I’d rather fly to Houston and watch Kasey jump out of an airplane. It would take a lot of books to read just to even come close to breaking even over the initial investment price. I’m a library book junkie for life. Haven’t paid to read a book in years. Don’t have to find a place to store them around the house. It’s my heaven. Guess I won’t be a brought over to the Kindle side anytime soon. Oh well. To each their own but if someone gave me $300 in cold hard cash I think there’s other things I’d do first.August 13, 2009 – 1:51 pm

Amanda Dennler - Kindles are amazing! I figure that all the money I’m saving on s&h fees or the gas it takes to get to a bookstore will soon pay off the kindle. Plus you get books at a cheaper price. And I just love the convenience of it. I can get a book in a minute and don’t have to wait for it to be shipped. It also allows for you to play music (though I haven’t tried it yet) in the background while your reading. I mean I love physical books but this is just so much more book lover friendly.August 10, 2009 – 7:37 pm

Laura Petzoldt - Ahhh, you had to mention our cruise next year. The one good thing about summer coming to a close is that we don’t have to wait for another one for tropical paradise! While you enjoy your Kindle, I’ll pack two small books in my suitcase. Hehe!August 9, 2009 – 1:17 pm

admin - Laura, I don’t see myself completely giving up on tangible books either, especially the classics. But, when you’re on vacation or a trip (like our cruise next year) you don’t have to pack multiple books. And you can download a new book no matter where you are! The book I bought the other day was about 6 bucks. Liek I said, I haven’t bought a kindle yet myself, but I totally see it saving a ton of space in my room.August 8, 2009 – 8:46 am

Laura Petzoldt - I don’t know Kasey. I’ve heard people/friends rave about it. But I’m old fashioned. I like to turn pages in my books. I’m a HUGE consumer of the public library. I can’t afford to buy books, especially if you only read them once. And finding space for them is a problem too. I’m not ready to jump on the Kindle bandwagon but I can see how it is helpful in some situations. What does it cost to purchase a book on Kindle?August 7, 2009 – 4:47 pm
